Summer is in full swing, and people everywhere are having parties with their family and friends. We’ve put together 10 tips for throwing a seamless summer party from set up to break down, brought to you by the storage experts at Secure Self Storage.

1. Choose a Theme

Choosing a good theme is a fun way to get your guests involved in your party. Some summer party theme examples are hosting a luau, murder mystery night, or outdoor movie night. Finally, you could go with an American summer classic and have a barbeque outside!

2. Plan Ahead

Planning is key to throwing a successful party, ensuring you have everything you need. Be sure to consider what food, drinks, and games you will provide. Pro Tip: Prep food, drinks (and drink storage—don’t forget the ice), and games the night before the day of. This way, you can focus on the finishing touches on party day, and you don’t have to spend time hauling up games, prepping food, or grabbing ice at the last minute—trust us, there will be plenty to do.

3. Consider the Time of Day

Choosing a time when it’s not too hot and the weather is nice is important when deciding on a party date. This is especially important if you’re having your party outside. Consider the time of day, temperature, and weather forecast to ensure your guests are happy and your party runs without a hitch!

4. Have an Inventory List

Have you had a party before? Do you remember if it was a success or a flop? An inventory list can help with this. Keep a list of the party supplies to have at your disposal. For example, how many chairs do you need? Do you need paper plates/cups or plastic utensils? This will ensure you don’t double up on supplies, which saves you money and time.

5. Plan the Menu

It’s all about the food. The party menu and providing delicious food for your guests will make or break your party. Plan and consider what food and beverages you want for your party. Hamburgers or hot dogs? Fruit? Chips? During the summer, ensure your menu is refreshing and has options for everyone in attendance!

6. Entertainment

After food, it’s all about the games. While you don’t need too many—your guests will entertain each other in conversation, it is advised to provide some (and they’re great icebreakers.) Some ideas for summer games include Corn Hole, Kan Jam, or Croquet. Last but certainly not least, music is a must. Try making a special playlist for your party, or even splurge and get a DJ for music!

7. Summer Party? Keep it Cool

We all know those people who cannot stop complaining about the heat. Let’s face it: it’s hot in the summer months, and when hosting a party, it is important to find ways to keep your guests cool. Whether you keep part of the party inside in air-conditioned rooms or provide extra fans, cold drinks, and ice, it’s a good idea to consider ways to cool off so guests won’t get too hot in the summer heat. If kids are coming, consider getting a fun party sprinkler they can run through! Tip: Depending on where your party is, consider providing sunscreen for your guests.

8. Don’t Let Rain Stop Your Plan— Tips for Rainy Weather

Summer weather can be especially fickle. Continuously check the weather days before the party in case of a chance of rain or a storm, but don’t let rainy weather stop your celebration. Consider taking the party inside or having a tent handy to enjoy the warm weather and summer rain.

9. Keep the Bugs Away

Inevitably, there will most likely be bugs if you have your summer party outside. To keep them away, consider tiki torches and provide bug spray, citronella candles, and other tools your guests can use. It’s probably best to move things indoors as dusk approaches if your party will run into the night. Before the party, let your guests know to bring a change of clothes (long pants, long sleeves, and socks to steer clear of bug bites).

10. Set up Outdoor Seating

Not providing enough seating is possibly the biggest summer party faux pas you can make. To avoid this, make sure you have enough comfortable seats for everyone and maybe some extras. If you know you don’t have a ton of seating, ask your guests to bring their beach chairs with them!
